ABOUT HOPIE $PITSHARD
Hopie Spitshard’s life began with a rocky start in Manila, Philippines in the 1980s. She was only a few years old when she and her parents immigrated to America in search of the American Dream, but their faith in her promise was so deep, they named their firstborn “Hope”. Though she showed incredible musical potential on the violin, drums and guitar, Hopie’s secret talent lay in rapping- a skill she sharpened throughout high school by attacking boys-only cyphers wherever she could and sneaking into her best friend’s older brother’s studio to drop secret verses when nobody was looking. Still, her live performance would be her greatest asset, and a fortuitous encounter with up and coming producer 6Fingers at an underground hip hop show took her sound and career to a whole new level.
On July 8, 2008, Hopie released her first solo album, The Diamond Dame. The Diamond Dame features original music written by Hopie and produced by 6Fingers. Hopie’s website offers music downloads and many other features for fans to keep up with Hopie news. The Diamond Dame consists of 13 tracks, and features respected artists Del the Funky Homosapien, Kid Static and Bambu. The music video for her breakthrough hit, “Yummy”, released online on February 14, 2010, was produced by the award-winning Kid Heroes/Xylophone Films team behind the Black Eyed Peas’ “Bebot” and Bambu’s “Crooks and Rooks” videos. Hopie’s live performance has garnered respect from fans and fellow artists, and earned her a coveted spot on the 2010 Paid Dues Music Festival.
Currently, Hopie is back in the studio working on 3 albums: Her sophomore album, Raw Gems, a collaborate album with Del the Funky Homosapien called “Dolls & Robots”, and a 3rd album, The Pawnshop, with SF/LA underground rapper, Alexander Spit. Hopie has also teamed up with streetwear line, Adapt, to design a special T-Shirt line – Hopie Spitshard for Adapt Clothing – with promotional ad campaign launching March 2010. Finally, in addition to her burgeoning music career, Hopie is also an accomplished student wielding a cum laude Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. She is currently a fulltime law student at the prestigious U.C. Hastings College of the Law, and receives her Juris Doctorate in May 2010.
